Taking part in projects is the basics. Creating them is Palas.

What are the learning projects at Palas Atena?

They are experiences that move a student out of the audience and into the work: author, presenter, reporter, maker.

Content is everywhere. What is not everywhere is the chance to write a book and see it printed, to step onto a stage in the middle of recess, to put your name on a story for the school radio.

That is where an education leaves the page: when a student has to make something other people will read, hear or watch.

Estante Mágica, the young authors project

Students become the authors of their own stories. The project builds a taste for reading and writing, and encourages creativity, expression and initiative. One 5th grader wrote an entire book in English at the age of 11.

Recreart

On Fridays, recess turns into a stage. Students perform, share what they can do and live art spontaneously, with no rehearsal and no required audience.

PAA, the arts activity project

A space given over to making, where students explore different artistic languages and build sensitivity, imagination and new skills.

Theme Day

Days that break the routine and turn into experience. Each theme invites students to take part, make, interact and learn another way.

Anti-bullying program

A school only teaches well when it is safe. The program works on empathy, respect for difference, dialogue and healthy coexistence, continuously rather than as a one-off campaign.

School magazine and radio

Students produce real content and build writing, speaking, research and teamwork. Give someone a microphone and they learn to have a voice.

FLIP, the literary book fair

A gathering that brings students close to the world of books, with reading, writing, making, and contact with stories and authors.

Family Day

School and family in the same room, with activities and gatherings that strengthen the bond and celebrate what families bring to school life.

Financial literacy

Planning, responsibility, mindful spending and decision-making, pitched to each age. Early, because that bill arrives for everyone.

Are the projects required or optional?

The learning projects are part of the curriculum and happen during school hours, so every student takes part. The extracurricular clubs, on the other hand, are the family’s choice.

From what age does my child take part?

Projects are adapted by age. Estante Mágica, the young authors project and Theme Day start in Educação Infantil, while the school magazine and radio and the financial literacy work go deeper in Fundamental.

Do the projects get in the way of the curriculum?

No. They are how the content gets applied. A student writing a book is practicing reading, writing and argument, and one presenting on the radio is working on research and speaking.
